Audiobooks is one of the best apps to use if you want to listen to thousands of classic audiobooks from all your favorite authors with over 9,000 selections to choose from. This app is a must-have for keeping yourself engaged and motivated during a drive home, a morning run, an afternoon at the park or a lazy Sunday on your couch.
Find it on: Google Play
The Audiobooks app for Android affords you an extensive collection of audiobooks, some of which have surprisingly great audio and narration. You can get or stream the books directly from the Internet. You can search for books by Author(s), Title, Genres, Narrators, Languages, Most Popular and the Surprise Me section which picks books at random. The Most Popular section is the best to place to start as you can see what other users have been listening to. You can see the book info once you select a title. If you aren’t sure what to listen to, you can preview the large selection of books and their cover pages. The audiobook will begin to stream immediately you press the Play button.
The app will require Android 4.4 or higher. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use this app on your iOS device.
Ease of Use
Navigating the app is as simple as few touches. The app is quite responsive, although it does suffer occasional glitches such as freezing and failing to play certain audio. Some users have complained that the narrator cuts out the end of the chapter most of the times.
The latest version has a much more pleasant interface, and it also has an updated audio book catalog.
The updated UI is quite a jolt of energy compared to the previous version which was a bit bland. The blue theme is pleasant, and the overall design is quite intuitive. The Audiobooks homepage is neatly stacked with all menu options that you need, and everything is as simple as a tap. The contrast offered by the UI is excellent, and you don’t have to strain too much to read the font.
The app is free to install, and you won’t have to pay for any in-app purchases.
- Sports an improved UI;
- Quite intuitive and straightforward to use;
- Offers a large selection of audiobooks;
- Great audio quality.
- No iOS support;
- There is no way to mute the annoying ‘Libravox’ public audio ad at the end of every chapter.
Although this Android app offers a wide selection of audiobooks, it has far too many glitches. iOS users won’t be able to use this app on their devices. The app would be much more interesting if it gave you the ability to choose the narrator for each book you wanted to listen to. Either way, I’d recommend this Google Android app because of the large audiobook collection that it contains in its digital library.
